Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust - new Trust funding programme to support family members of Serving Personnel and Veterans who are wounded, sick or injured

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (the Trust) are proud to introduce the Family Focus Programme, part of our ongoing rollout of Covenant Fund programme launches.

Based on feedback from the Trust’s consultation findings, this programme has been designed to fund projects that explore and pilot solutions for family members-both collectively and as individuals- of wounded, injured, and sick, serving personnel and Veterans.

What is the Family Focus programme all about?

The Trust ran a public consultation in 2023, which identified that one of the key areas to focus on was ‘supporting those in need of special consideration.’ This programme is dedicated to supporting family members who care for serving personnel and Veterans who are wounded, injured or sick. It aims to address their needs beyond their roles as carers and consider the wellbeing of the whole family unit, enhancing quality of life. The consultation findings are available to read on The Trust website.

The Family Focus programme will support projects which achieve one or more of the following outcomes:
  • Improved access to support for families, through information, advice & guidance.
  • Improved family bonds, through meaningful opportunities together.
  • Increased resilience for family members with a caring role, through wellbeing activities.
  • Family members feel that their needs are recognised and that they can receive targeted support that addresses these changing needs over time.
  • Parents are better supported to respond to changes in family life, where there are children within the family unit.
  • Family carers have enhanced employability, through access to skills development which enables them to plan for the future.
  • Organisations and agencies can demonstrate that they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to address the specific needs of the families of wounded, injured and sick serving personnel and/or Veterans.

Organisations can apply for a grant of between £50,000 and £100,000 for projects lasting 12 to 18 months.

Who can apply?

The Trust is inviting applications from registered charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs) local authorities and other statutory organisations.

What type of projects are The Trust looking to support?

The Trust are interested in supporting projects that enhance the quality of life for the family members of wounded, injured or sick personnel and Veterans. This includes improving access to support, providing targeted assistance that addresses their evolving needs over time, and building resilience for those with a caring role.

The programme is now open for applications and the closing date is 12 noon on 18 December 2024. You will receive a decision before end of March 2025.

Anna Wright, Chief Executive at the Trust said: “We aim to support the families of wounded, injured, or sick serving personnel and veterans as they adjust to change and finding new paths forward. This programme is designed to explore innovative solutions to help these families adjust and thrive.”
