Applying for a newborn passport overseas

Are you a British National, and need to apply for a newborn passport whilst living overseas?

Gov.uk provide a step by step process here

The online application is guided and usually takes around 6 weeks for the passport to arrive, from completion of application. Please note, application can also be made through company clerks and RAO but this paper based application process can take much longer than 6 weeks.

Depending on travel circumstances and time frames, you may also need to apply for an Emergency Travel Document (ETD). This can also be completed online and more information on this process can be found here

There may be a requirement to show that you have already applied for a full passport when applying for ETD's so the passport tracking reference number provided through your online passport application will be required in the ETD application.

When applying online, you will be able to track the application at each stage.

For Non-British Nationals, please liaise directly with company clerks and RAO
